Sanya Leads the Cruise Industry in China

Nov 5, the 4th China Cruise Industry Development Conference and the 1st International Cruise Expo opened on Costa Classica at the International Cruise Terminal of Sanya Phoenix Island. Governor Luo of Hainan province attended the opening ceremony held at the Colossae Theater and delivered a passionate speech, introducing Hainan's unique natural tourism resources and focusing on Sanya’s advantages in developing cruise tourism. He pointed out that with the trends of the cruise industry shifting toward China and other Asian emerging markets, Hainan will be seeking and strengthening cooperation with Costa and other world-renowned cruise companies in order to build Sanya into an international cruise homeport in China, and jointly promote the development of the world's cruise industry.

Close in geographic latitude to Florida where cruise tourism is the most developed, Sanya has obvious cutting edges in developing cruise tourism over other leading port cities in China. In 2008 alone there are 132 cruise voyages visited Sanya, second to none compared to other major port cities in China.

Nov 11, early in the morning, a long and loud siren signaled the first visit to Sanya by Volendam, a Dutch cruise. Carrying more than 1,300 European and American tourists amidst the morning mist Volendam arrived and docked at the Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Port. As China's unique tropical charming tourist hot destination along the international cruise routes between Hong Kong and Singapore, Sanya will definitely be frequented by more and more international luxury cruises.
